Guardian and Forever Families

What is a Guardian family?
Here at Bipsi’s Doodles, we strive to raise our dogs in homes with loving families. Guardian families are a big part of our program. With this partnership our breeding dogs and potential breeding stock benefit by living within loving homes.

How does it work?
The puppy/dog lives with you and becomes a member of your family, while we retain official breeding rights for a contracted amount of time. Once the dog is finished with their breeding career, they will be spayed/neutered at our expense and official ownership rights will be transferred to you.

Why Guardian homes?
As many caring breeders we feel that puppies/dogs that are raised with forever families is beneficial to our dogs. Having our dogs in loving family environments is something that honors our dogs.

How much do I pay for the puppy or dog?
Nothing. While the dog is under the guardian contract, we retain legal ownership of the puppy/dog until the puppy/dog is released for our program. At that time, we will have them spayed/neutered at our expense and we will transfer legal ownership to you.

How long are puppies/dogs in the Guardian program?
This depends, and we take everything one step at a time. First our puppies/dogs must pass health/temperament testing. Once this is obtained and the dog is of breeding age, we continue to evaluate our dogs.

How often does the dog come to Bipsi’s Doodles?
When female dogs are ready for breeding, they come to us for about a week for breeding and again prior to birthing. Dogs will stay and be cared for by us for 7 to 9 weeks while puppy’s whelp. Females will visit us for about 7 days while in heat to be bred. She will return to your home for most of her pregnancy, which is 63 days. Our pregnant females return to us around 52 days gestation. They are placed in our nursery to stay with us and stays until she has weaned her puppies. Typically, 7 to 9 weeks.

Is it hard on the Mamas to leave their family to give birth?
No. They may have a day or two of confusion when they first arrive, but we pay special attention and make them as comfortable as possible. When Mamas are this far into pregnancy their natural instinct kick in and they are in full Mom zone.

Can I come visit them while they are there?
Typically no. Our new Moms need quite and as little stress as possible.

Do I need to treat my dog differently during pregnancy?
Not really. We ask that you keep a watchful eye out. Like human Moms can want to eat anything left out, many household items are dangerous for dogs. Pregnant females will start to eat about 25% more in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Pregnant females should not be taken to places to keep them healthy and so they are not put at any risk for potential viruses that can be lethal to puppies.

Who pays for all regular dog care?
The Guardian Family pays for all normal vet care, approved food toys ext. Anything that would be part of normal pet ownership falls under the under the responsibility of the Guardian Family. We pay for all vet expenses related to breeding this includes health testing. It is up to Guardian Families if they want to purchase pet insurance. It is highly recommended. Accidents happen and emergency vet bills can be expensive. Pet insurance if very affordable.

How many times will females be bred?
We evaluate each pregnancy. Many factors come into play such as age, how many whelps, how Mom has done and many others.

Can Bipsi’s Doodles take back the dog?
Legally, if the contract is broken, then yes, we can. This is never our goal. We strive to place our dogs in wonderful, loving Guardian homes that honor our dogs. We do have specific requirements such as dogs being made available for health testing, breeding, whelping ext. Vaccinations and monthly check ins and photos of the dog will be required. We make this as easy as possible on our Guardian family Facebook page.

What are some of the requirements?
*You must own your own home.
*You must have a secured fenced yard.
*You must not have any other intact dogs on the premises.
*For the health of our Guardian dogs they may not too dog parks, doggie daycare ext. The risk of injury or disease is too high.
*Proper behavior training. We hope this also a goal for our families.
*It will be the Guardian Family’s responsibility to transport the dog to and from Bipsi’s Doodles. Time is of the essence when it comes to breeding, we have a small window during a heat cycle. Heat cycles are also unpredictable.
*Yearly visits to veterinarian. Guardian Families are required to make sure dogs are up do date on vaccinations.
All records must be provided to Bipsi’s Doodles for our records. We will come together to make the best
decisions for our dogs. You are an important part of all decisions.
*Commit to feeding foods and supplements approved by Bipsi’s Doodles.
*Proper grooming and maintenance of doodle can be expensive. Families but be made aware of the expense entailed with proper grooming.
*Live within 60 minutes driving distance.ll
